Edwards L9 Fluid is a synthetic diffusion pump oil based on naphthalene, specifically developed for ultra-high vacuum applications where silicone oils are unsuitable. It delivers excellent performance with a typical ultimate pressure of up to 5 × 10⁻⁹ mbar at 20 °C, making it ideal for precise and sensitive applications requiring minimal residue and maximum cleanliness.
Unlike silicone oils, L9 does not form insulating films on surfaces, allowing it to be used in environments that demand absolute purity. The oil offers high thermal and chemical stability, remains stable under vacuum conditions, and minimizes deposits within the pump.
